I am a Senior Accredited MBACP Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist. I have been trained as a counsellor for over 25 years. I am currently a full time therapist for the Royal Navy, and have a private practice based near Portsmouth. I am also a freelance writer on relationship and sexual issues. I am the author of six books on personal and relationship concerns.
I have a special interest in the links between disordered eating and relationship issues, with special reference to the attachments we make in adulthood. Disordered or emotional eating can often stem from how we relate to others, sometimes those from our past, and even our relationship to our own bodies. Using the UYE programme, I aim to offer a chance for people to explore, understand and take action on their approach to eating that they find difficult or upsetting. I offer one-to-one sessions during the evenings in my comfortable counselling room. Contact me to discuss arrangements for an initial session.
My interest in Understanding Your Eating came about from personal experience. As someone who has struggled to manage their weight over time and realising that it was not linked to what I ate but more about what I thought and how I felt, UYE made sense where other traditional therapies did not. For the first time I realised there were triggers and connections to why I over ate. Having completed the Programme and become a Licensed practitioner, I am now happy to work with clients that want to get to the root of why they eat emotionally and how they can change those patterns for good. I work both on a one to one basis with clients and also run groups with a colleague which is based in Kings Hill, Kent.
I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Couples Counsellor and a member of the BACP. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling which I gained in 2008 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Couples Counselling which I gained in 2011. I work predominantly using Person Centred counselling skills. I work in private Practice in east Farleigh and in the Probation Service offering counselling for offenders. Prior to training as a counsellor I worked for 20+ years in the private sector in marketing roles.
